William Pratt (1855-1936)

Artist Name William Pratt (1855-1936)
Title Landscape with sheep
Description This gorgeous, vibrant  Scottish Impressionist landscape oil painting is by noted Glasgow artist William Pratt. Painted in 1920 the composition is sheep, shepherd and sheepdog in the foreground under copper beech trees. The land then slopes downwards across fields and more trees to a loch with rising mountains beyond, all under a blue sky. The vivid palette is superb with lime green fields in the foreground, interspersed with orangy brown tones of trees  and the peacock blue of the loch in the distance, mirroring the blue of the shepherd's jacket. This painting is very attractive  and gives on a wonderful impression of space and tranquility. This is an excellent example of Pratt's work who is one of our favourite artists.
