|Artist Name||R Chambers (Mid/late 19th century)|
|Title||Fisherfolk on Shore|
|Description||This charming oil painting is by British 19th century artist R Chambers. Painted circa 1880, the composition is of a group of fisherfolk on a shoreline with beached vessels and another boat being wrecked just out to sea. They appear about to attempt some sort of rescue as a mother hands over a child to a younger girl. The driving rain and swell of the sea are perfectly captured, as is the flow of urgent action amoungst the fisherfolk. The blue tones of clothing are reminiscent of the Newlyn School. A lovely dramatic painting of the power of the sea.
