Description This lovely Art Deco portrait oil painting is by noted British artist James P Barraclough. Painted circa 1923 it is a seated portrait of a young woman holding a book on her lap. She is wearing a blue satin dress with lace cuffs and collar and is gazing warmly at the artist and viewer. The illumination on her features is superb. A lovely Art Deco period oil portrait and an excellent example of Barraclough's work.

Provenance By direct descent through the artist's family.

Frame Housed in a fine Chapman Brothers gilded oak frame, 38 inches by 33 inches and in good condition.
Condition Good condition.
Biography  James Penniston Barraclough (1890-1942). Painter of portraits in oils. He lived and worked in London and exhibited mainly at the Walker Art Gallery, RA, RP and ROI, becoming a member of the latter in 1922.
