Description This bold Victorian Royal Academy exhibited portrait oil painting with excellent provenance is by noted British artist Frank W Carter. Painted circa 1900 the painting is a seated portrait of eminent published professor, physician and president of the British Medical Association Dr Robert Saundby M.D., L.L.D., F.R.C.P. He was a Birmingham General Hospital Physician in1885, Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians 1887 followed by president of the BMA. Dr Saundby is seated at his desk in red robes, with an inkwell before him and black hat on the desk. A striking portrait of a senior medical figure in Victorian Birmingham.

Biography Frank (Francis) W Carter (1870-1933). Portrait, landscape and interior London based painter. Son of Hugh C Carter. Studied at the Slade School. ROI 1905.
