Title Saint Veronica Wiping the Face of Christ
Description This stunning 17th century religious oil painting of Christ and Saint Veronica is attributed to an artist from the Venetian School. The painting is of Saint Veronica, wiping the face of Christ on his way to Calvary, the hill outside Jerusalem on which Christ was crucified. Saint Veronica is known as the woman who offered a cloth to Jesus so He could wipe His face on the way to His crucifixion. The cloth is believed to exist today in the Vatican and is considered one of the most treasured relics of the Church. The artist has perfectly captured the tenderness of Saint Veronica and the calm sorrow of Christ. A very moving and inspiring painting and very Caravaggioesque in style.
