Description | This gorgeous 18th century British portrait oil painting is by Old Master artist John Berridge. Painted in 1769 it is a half length portrait of a dark haired boy in sumptuous yellow waistcoat and ruffled white collar under a green jacket. He is stood in an interior with an orange drape behind him. The detail in his facial features and use of white to highlight are superb. One can see the influences of his teacher, Joshua Reynolds in this excellent example of his work. A really strong, colourful 18th century Old Master oil portrait. Inscription verso and dated 1769. |

Biography | John Berridge (1740-1804). British 18th century artist active in the second half of the 18th century painting oil portraits. Berridge studied under Joshua Reynolds. He belonged to the Royal Society of Arts and in 1769 became a member of the Incorporated Society of Artists. He exhibited between 1785 and 1797 art the Royal Academy, London. |
