Description British Highlands landscape painter Robert Watson painted this stunning oil painting in 1911. This large Edwardian painting is of iconic Scottish Highland cattle grazing on a mountain side, bathed in mist. Watson was famous for his Highland paintings and he perfectly captures the atmospheric scene. As well as beautifully depicting the vastness of the mountains, he also captures the exquisite detail of the flora and fauna with delicate brushwork and a sensitive vibrant and colourful palette. This is an excellent example of Watson's work and a lovely Scottish highland oil painting.

Biography Robert Watson (1865-1916) was born in Warboys in Cambridgeshire in 1865 and his family were landscape painters of the Scottish Highlands, a tradition he continued to specialise in. Watson moved to Southport Lancashire and later to Elswick near Newcastle upon Tyne. His Scottish highland scenes, often with cattle, were very fashionable  in the 19th century and much in demand. He perfectly captured the atmospheric mountainous landscape with and always with superb attention to detail and colouring. Watson exhibited in Glasgow and Liverpool. He died in 1916.
