This wonderful Art Deco portrait oil painting is attributed to an artist from the Scottish School, based on the style and palette. Painted in the 1930's, the sitter is Mrs Bingley of Shadwell House, Finningham, Suffolk. Mrs Bingley is a blonde young woman in a patterned dress, sat at a table and holding a blue parasol. She is in a landscape with trees and strong dappled sunlight behind her. On her shoulder rests a large blue parasol, the handle grasped in both hands. The parasol is blocking out most of the landscape behind her but tantalising glimpses of it can be seen around her. She is gazing at the artist/viewer in a serene manner. It is a captivating Scottish Art Deco portrait oil painting and an excellent example of Scottish art. |
