Painted almost entirely in shade of grey and circa 1750, it is a beautiful full length portrait of an angel with a child. The angel's wings are spread out behind as he touches the child's head with one hand and points to the heavens with the other. The light breaking through the clouds illuminates the child's innocent face and scene. A beautiful and powerful religious oil painting. A grisaille is a painting executed entirely in shades of grey or of another neutral greyish colour. Paintings executed in brown are referred to as brunaille, and paintings executed in green are called verdaille. |
