| Description | This charming British Victorian portrait oil painting is by noted artist Charles Sillem Lidderdale. Painted in 1872 it is a half length portrait of a beautiful young woman leaning her elbows on a fence with trees beyond her. She is dressed in a vibrant floral blue dress with a black lace shawl and a white mop cap with a pretty pink bow. In her hand she holds some wild violets. It is entitled verso Pensive Thoughts. There is lovely brushwork and great detail in her facial features. A lovely sweet image of a young woman deep in thought and an excellent example of Lidderdale's work. Signed lower right with monogram and date (18)72. |
