| Title | Portrait of a Young Lady with Fruit |
| Description | This lovely British 18th century portrait oil painting, with excellent provenance, is attributed to circle of George Henry Harlow. Painted circa 1760, it is a standing half length portrait of a young lady carrying a platter of fruit. Harlow frequently painted pretty young women in domestic situations rather than more formal Society portraits. The sitters would often be cooking, doing laundry, ironing, sewing etc. and often smiling at the artist/viewer as in this painting. The sitter is wearing a grey dress trimmed with lace and red bows on the sleeve. Her long blonde hair cascades down her back and she is turning to look back over her bare shoulder. The fruit platter of black grapes and peaches echo the colours of her dress and lips and the scene is beautifully illuminated. This is a charming British Old Master oil painting, housed in a pretty Lely panel ornate gilt frame. |
