Description This stunning Italian late Baroque circa 1650 Old Master Italian oil painting is attributed to a follower of Guercino. The large painting is of the Annunciation to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox celebration of the announcement by the Archangel Gabriel to the Blessed Virgin Mary that she would conceive and become the mother of Jesus, the Son of God, marking His Incarnation. The colouring is fantastic as is the light depicted streaming down from the holy dove.

Biography Giovanni Francesco Barbieri (1591 - 1666), better known as Guercino, or il Guercino, was an Italian Baroque painter and draftsman from Cento in the Emilia region, who was active in Rome and Bologna. The vigorous naturalism of his early manner contrasts with the classical equilibrium of his later works. His many drawings are noted for their luminosity and lively style.
