Description This lovely Scottish Victorian landscape oil painting is by Aberdeenshire artist Thomas Bunting. The location is the Altyre estate near the small town of Forres, in Moray, Scotland. It was painted circa 1890 and is painted as a portrait to emphasise the height and majesty of the trees, some of their tops not even visible. To add to the perspective, a dog, a mere dot at the foot of the trees, runs through the wood. it's wonderful mix of green hues and nature at its best. An excellent example of a 19th century Scottish wooded landscape and of Bunting's work.

Biography Thomas Bunting (1851-1928). Scottish artist Bunting lived and worked in Aberdeen painting landscapes of there and Perthshire his whole life. He was a member of the Aberdeen Artists’ Society, which  was established in 1827 and he showed there in 1885.The painterly Realism of George Reid influenced Bunting for the rest of his career. Bunting exhibited in Aberdeen and also at the Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts.
