Description A tranquil British 19th century exhibited river landscape oil painting  by Oxford artist James Bridges. Painted circa 1837, the location is the river Isis in Oxford at twilight. A bend in the river captures beautiful reflections, framed on either side by trees. In the foreground are cattle and children fishing with figures and dwellings beyond as the river Isis snakes into the distance. A beautiful 19th century pastoral oil painting with fantastic light and tones.

Biography James Bridges (1802 - 1865) .Bridges was a landscape and portrait painter. He lived in Oxford with his brother John, who painted similar subjects. James travelled extensively in Italy, Sicily and Germany. He exhibited oil and watercolour paintings at the Royal Academy between 1819 and 1853 as well as the Royal Society of British Artists and the New Watercolour Society.
