Description | This superb British Old Master portrait oil painting is attributed to circle of noted artist Michael Dahl. Although born in Sweden, Dahl lived and worked most of his life in England and painted numerous aristocrats and members of the royal family. This lovely waist length portrait is of a beautiful young woman in a red dress matching her red lips. Her facial features are superb and her brown eyes gaze at the artist/viewer, head slight turned. The dark background really emphasises her face and dress. This is a fantastic example of an Old Master portrait with such vibrant colouring. Unsigned. |

Biography | Simon Pietersz Verelst (1644–1710) was a Dutch Golden Age painter. Verelst was born in The Hague. According to the RKD he was the son of Pieter Harmensz Verelst and became a pupil in the Confrerie Pictura at the same time as his brother Herman in 1663. In 1668 he moved to London, where he died. He called himself "the God of Flowers", but is known for portraits as well as flower and fruit still life paintings. |
