Title Still Life of Flowers in a Basket on a Carved Box
Description This wonderful Dutch Old Master floral arrangement is attributed to a follower of Jan Van Huysum. Painted circa 1760 it is a stunning selection of flowers including blue iris, poppies, peonies, passion flower and hollyhock. The flowers are arranged in a wicker basket sitting on a wooden box decorated with carved figures. It is a vibrant composition with great detail, perfectly balanced and a delight to the eye. An excellent example of a Dutch 18th century Old Master floral oil painting.

Biography Jan van Huysum (1682 - 1749). Jan van Huysum was the last of the distinguished still lifepainters active in the Northern Netherlands in the 17th and early 18th centuries, and an internationally celebrated artist in his lifetime.  Although he specialised in flower still lifes, van Huysum also painted a few landscapes.
