Description A  stunning large oil on canvas by female artist Rowley Leggett who was a Surrey based artist. She was a noted rustic landscape painter and specialised in these sort of landscape scenes this one portraying a horse watering in a forest of evening "Corot" light. Very polished and in good gallery condition. It is  a very good Edwardian painting in an impressionist early 20th century palette. She was a well exhibited artist and her works are now well collected, often on display at Galleries who exhibit at the art fairs. This is a lovely example of her work in good original condition.

Signed lower left Rowley Leggett and dated 1911.

Biography An artist of the British school, Rowley Leggett, a talented female artist, painted a variety of subjects. She exhibited regularly between the years 1904 and 1919. In her lifetime, she exhibited 22 canvases at the Ridley Art Club, 16 at the Society of Women Artists, 14 at the London Salon, 3 at the Royal Cambrian Society, 8 at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, 3 at the Royal Society of British Artists at Birmingham, 4 at the International Society, 1 at the Goupil Gallery, and 4 at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. In 1910, she was made an associate of the Society of Women Artists, a very important accomplishment for a female British artist.
