Description This lovely British 19th century genre oil painting is by Victorian artist Isaac Henzell. Painted circa 1860 it is a charming scene of a mother and child in the doorway of their cottage with their donkeys. There are also some lovely gleaming terracotta pots outside the cottage. A very quaint Victorian rustic genre scene with great detail and an excellent example of Henzell's work.

Biography Isaac Henzell  (1823-C.1876). A British 19th century artist active in London. Henzell painted portraits, genre scenes and landscapes with figures. He was a member of the Society of British Artists and exhibited at the Royal Academy in London, the British Institute and Suffolk Street Gallery from 1854 to 1875. Works by him are in  Reading, Sheffield and York art galleries. He is known to have collaborated with Henry Bright. Subjects were usually rustic scenes with children and pretty girls. Henzell died in 1876 aged fifty three.
