Description This beautiful British  Impressionist oil painting is by noted animal artist Arthur Spooner. Painted circa 1935 it is a superb painting of two working horses standing in the shade of vibrant green trees. The dappled sunlight that Spooner loved to depict is bathing the scene in the most wonderful light. The heavy impasto and brushwork along with the light make this a beautiful Impressionist painting of horses.

Provenance Derby estate. Remains of two exhibition labels verso. Possibly exhibited in 1935 at the Royal Academy no. 677 as 'Dappled Sunlight'.

Frame Housed in a fine period gilt frame, 34 inches by 32 inches and in good condition.
Biography Arthur Spooner (1873–1962) was a British Impressionist painter from Nottingham, England. Spooner was born in Nottingham and trained at the Nottingham School of Art (now part of Nottingham Trent University) in the late 19th century. He later taught landscape and figurative painting there in the early 20th century. He painted The Goose Fair, Nottingham in 1926. The painting was sold at Christie's in 2004 and is displayed in Nottingham Castle.
