Description | An original oil on canvas by Douglas Cameron. It depicts Scottish cattle on the mountainous panoramic terrain. A fine painting in its original gallery frame. Painted circa 1915, it is titled Highland Rovers and is in very god condition. It was exhibited at The Royal Academy in 1915 according to the label on the reverse. Douglas Cameron was a fine Scottish landscape artist and was known for his heroic landscapes, coastal scenes and cattle paintings. This is a lovely example of the Scottish period oil painting. A very strong image. Signed left and with title and artist’s signature verso. |

Biography | Duncan Cameron (1837-1916) was born in Perthshire, Scotland and was educated at Dundee and South Kensington, London. He is best known for his fine landscapes of the Scottish countryside with a particular fondness for scenes of cornfields. He exhibited at the RA and at the Society of British Artists, and in 1876 was awarded the Gold Medal at Crystal Palace for showing the best landscape. He died in Edinburgh aged 79. |
