|Description||This lovely portrait oil painting is by Scottish exhibited artist Allan Newton Sutherland. It was painted in 1914 and is a seated portrait of a young Scottish girl with auburn hair and a blue hair band with flowers. A very sweet painting and a lovely example of Scottish portraiture.
Signed upper right and dated 1914.

|Biography||Allan Newton Sutherland (1885-1918) flourished 1908-1918. Aberdeen painter, mainly portraits. Moved to Glasgow c 1913 and then eventually returned to Aberdeen. Sutherland died in WW1 aged 33. Despite such a short life he was already a committed artist and was exhibiting regularly, especially at the Aberdeen Artists Society in his home town.
