Description | British Victorian artist George Hickin painted this Welsh rocky river landscape oil painting. Painted in 1849, the location is the river Llugwy at Betws y Coed in Wales. Two young boys sit on the rocks above, fishing, as the river swirls round boulders and under a bridge. The light beautifully catches the boys and rocks. A lovely example of Victorian landscape oil painting and of Hickin's work, housed in a stunning frame with good provenance. . Signed and dated 1849 lower right. |

Biography | George Arthur Hickin (1821-1885). British artist who painted landscapes and birds including 'Turkey and Fowls; and On the River Clwyd neat St Asaph'. He also exhibited 7 works, mostly still lifes at the Royal Academy 1858-62. He is represented in Wolverhampton Art Gallery and six works at the BI,1858-62. Lived in Greenwich, Liverpool and Cheshire. |
