Helen M Hale (1936-)

Helen Hale, ROI, FPS, SWA, NS was born in 1936 in Hertfordshire and educated at St. George's School, Harpenden. From 1955 to 1970 she combined a career in design and book illustration with  study at St. Martin's School of Art and the Sir John Cass School of Art. Since 1970 she has concentrated full-time on painting and sculpture. In 1974 she was elected a Member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and an honorary archivist of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 2002. She is also a member of the National Society of Painters, Sculptures and Printmakers, the Society of Women Artists and the Free Painters and Sculptors. She has lived in West Sussex for over twenty years and was married to the Scottish artist Horne Shepherd who died in 1993.
