W E Bates (fl. 1847-1872)

WE Bates was born in 1812. The date of his death is unknown.  He flourished between 1847-1872.  Bates was a British 19th century painter who resided at a number of addresses in London, including London Bridge in 1847. He exhibited 31 times at the Royal Academy London and also at the British Institution. He specialised in oils of coastal  and river scenes of Normandy, Jersey, Isle of Man, Essex, Yorkshire and The Thames.
