| Description | This lovely Scottish Edwardian interior portrait oil painting is by noted Scottish artist Arthur Percy Dixon. Painted in 1906 it is a seated portrait of a lady in the corner of a room, beside a table with a tea set on it. There is also a brass candlestick holder and painting on the wall. She is dressed in black with a white hat and veil behind. She is wearing a long gold chain and wedding ring and is sat with her hands clasped in her lap. She is half smiling and has kindly big blue eyes. There is lovely detail and brushwork in her facial features, which are beautifully illuminated, and also her hands. The tea set and candlestick holder have a wonderful lustrous gleam. This is a fine Scottish Edwardian portrait and a lovely example of Dixon's work. Signed and dated lower right, 1906. |

| Biography | Arthur Percy Dixon (1862-1924). Dixon flourished between 1884-1917. He was an Edinburgh painter in oil and watercolour, of portraits and figurative subjects. In 1887 his Edinburgh Castle painting received favourable mention, as did his study of An Edinburgh Flower Market in 1899. Exhibited: Royal Scottish Academy 57, Glasgow Institute 26, Royal Society of Watercolour Artists 1, Aberdean Artist Society 2, Walker Gallery Liverpool 2 from 47 York Place, Edinburgh. Represented in City of Edinburgh collection. |
