This interesting and busy Dutch Old Master marine oil painting on panel is by noted Dutch artist Hendrik de Meyer. Painted circa 1660 the painting is a view of the Dort river with many boating vessels on it. In the background is Dordrecht, the oldest city in Holland with a rich history and culture. A beautiful example of a Dutch Old Master oil painting. |

Biography |
Henrik I de Meyer or Meijer, called the Elder (c1600-1690). Born in Rotterdam with various dates ranging from 1600 -1620. He died before 1690 again with various dates around 1683. Noted to be a painter of Military subjects. Active in Rotterdam in 1660. His works have often be attributed to Hendrik II de Meyer (1737-1793) and vice versa. |
