Description This Lovely Scottish portrait oil painting is by noted portrait artist James Bell Anderson who worked out of his studio in Glasgow. It was painted in 1919 and is signed and dated. It is a portrait of a girl in a pink dress with a pink bow in her dark hair. She is holding a hat in her hand and gazing at the artist/viewer. The brushwork is superb and the details in her face just charming. This is a wonderful example of Anderson's work as a well sought after Scottish portrait artist.

Biography James Bell Anderson (1886-1938). Painter, born in Edinburgh he studied at Edinburgh School of Art where he won a scholarship in his first year, at Hospitalfield, Arbroath for four years under George Harcourt and in Paris at Académie Julian under Jean Paul Laurens. Upon returning to Britian he set up a studio in Glasgow in 1912, devoting himself entirely to portraiture. One of his first commissions was Lord Strathclyde, then Lord Advocate. He was also commissioned by the Constitutional Club to complete a portrait of Bonar Law, which had been started by Sir James Guthrie.

Elected ARSA 1932, RSA 1938. Exhibited regularly , RA 3, RSA 45 occasionally still lifes as well as portraits, RSW 2, GI 74, AAS 1.
