Description This superb abstract painting is by American abstract artist Roger Bruinekool. Painted in 1962 it is a square mixed media/oil on board with great impasto and texture and free, confident brushwork. There is something very satisfying to the eye about this painting and the white on the darker background is perfect. A great example of Bruinekool's work by an artist who is still working today in his eighties.

Biography Roger Bruinekool, born in 1935 and still going in his eighties, was a graduate of the Kendall School of Design in 1957.  Over the decades, from being a member of the creative team that launched in 1982 On The Ground Magazine, to a two-time competing artist at ArtPrize he has a very successful and busy career. Known for his abstract artworks, Bruinekool after graduating from KCAD, spent about a quarter of a century painting and working as graphic designer and art director in Miami, Fresno, New York, Los Angeles, and Kingston, Jamaica before returning to Grand Rapids in 1974. He has also had two solo exhibitions of his works at the Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM). His most recent exhibition at East Hills’ Richard App Gallery entitled The Refined Line, Bruinekool’s exhibition is a visual delight for the eye with rich colors freely weaving across the surface in a playful and powerfully bold manner.
