Biography | Edouard Krug (1829-1901) is a French painter. Son of the mayor of the municipality of Drubec (Calvados), he learned his art in the studio of Léon Cogniet at the School of Fine Arts in Paris. He began exhibiting in the painting Salon of Paris from 1861. Both portraitist and painter of religious scenes and history specialist, he made pious decorative frescoes in the cathedral of Autun, the churches of Macon, Beaune, Meursault and Jullié. He was a member of the French Artists Society. Medal 3rd class was awarded to him at the Salon of 1880. He received a bronze medal on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition of 1889 and was awarded the Legion of Honour in 1897. He founded an art museum in Beaumont-en-Auge in 1875 and a painting academy in Paris in 1876. |
