Description | This superb Scottish Impressionist figurative landscape oil painting is by noted Scottish artist James Wright. Painted circa 1920 the painting is of a mother with a baby and young girl, the latter gazing at the viewer, as they walk along a cobbled quayside. In the background are boats and houses. The vibrant Scottish palette, impasto and brushwork are superb as are the reflections in the water. A really lovely colourful painting in the Scottish tradition and an excellent example of Wright's work. Signed lower right. |

Biography | James Wright (1885-1947). Born in Ayr. Painter in oils and watercolour and stained glass designer. Landscape and figure subjects. Brother of Margaret Isobel Wright (1884-1957) who was also an artist. Studied at Glasgow School of Arts. Elected RSW 1920. Exhibited Royal Academy 3, Royal Scottish Academy 36, Royal Society of Watercolour Painters 82, Aberdeen Artists Society 2, Glasgow institute 57, Walker Gallery Liverpool 5. |
