Description This charming 19th century British oil painting is by famous animal artist Philip Eustace Stretton. The painting was painted circa 1890 in a Realist palette with great detailed brushwork. The composition is a gorgeous Collie dog looking out of a window, perhaps for his owner. He is in danger of knocking over a pot of vibrant geraniums in his excitement. The painting is an excellent example of Stretton's artistry and ideal for dog lovers out there. Signed lower right.

Biography Philip Eustace Stretton (1865-1919) was a British animal and sporting painter working between 1882 until his death. He painted in oils and watercolour and exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1884 and 1904. Stretton was a follower of Sir Edwin Landseer, whose animal paintings had an enormous impact on Stretton.
