Artist Name Samuel John Barnes (1847-1901)
Title Cattle in a Highland Landscape
Description This stunning very large Highland landscape oil painting is by noted British Victorian landscape artist Samuel John Barnes. Painted circa 1880 it is a large rectangular painting of long horn cattle by a Scottish loch with mountains beyond. A very atmospheric painting with superb tones and light. A really lovely example of Barnes work and comparable with the best of Louis Bosworth Hurt's large Scottish cattle landscapes. The location is likely to be not too far from Royal Deesside near Balmoral where he often painted.
