| Description | This large stunning twice Academy exhibited Victorian Scottish landscape oil painting is by noted artist David Cameron. Painted in 1886, the painting is entitled on an exhibition label verso; September Heat - Harvest in Stirlingshire. It was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1889 with this title and also exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy in 1890. The composition is an impressive panoramic landscape view of stooks in the forground of a wheat field with workers in the distance. Beyond them is a river and mountains, bathed in the eventide sunlight. This painting is absolutely superb with its fabulous brushwork and luminosity and an excellent example of Cameron's work with top quality provenance. Signed and dated 'D.Cameron 1886' lower left. |

| Biography | Duncan Cameron (1837-1916) was born in Perthshire, Scotland and was educated at Dundee and South Kensington, London. He is best known for his fine landscapes of the Scottish countryside with a particular fondness for scenes of cornfields. He exhibited at the RA and at the Society of British Artists, and in 1876 was awarded the Gold Medal at Crystal Palace for showing the best landscape. He died in Edinburgh aged 79. |
