Description This wonderful Victorian Scottish landscape oil painting is by noted Scottish artist Duncan Cameron. Painted in 1880 it is a superb example of his favourite subject, cornfields. The location is near Brig o' Turk, a small rural community in the Trossachs, a range of hills in Stirling, Scotland. The painting is of the harvest being brought in - Cameron has perfectly captured in the foreground the golden glowing bundles of set wheat cast long afternoon shadows and being hoisted up onto a horse and cart. The Trossach hills can be seen beyond. A really enchanting painting and an excellent example of Scottish Victorian art.
Signed and dated 1880 lower right.

Biography Duncan Cameron (1837-1916) was born in Perthshire, Scotland and was educated at Dundee and South Kensington, London. He is best known for his fine landscapes of the Scottish countryside with a particular fondness for scenes of cornfields. He exhibited at the RA and at the Society of British Artists, and in 1876 was awarded the Gold Medal at Crystal Palace for showing the best landscape. He died in Edinburgh aged 79.
