Kathleen Margaret Pearson (1898-1961)

Artist Name Kathleen Margaret Pearson (1898-1961)
Title The Three Horses (plus preliminary sketch)
Description This gorgeous Art Deco equine landscape oil painting and sketch with excellent provenance is by British horse artist Kathleen Margaret Pearson. It was painted in 1933 and exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy in 1939, entitled the Three Horses. The composition is three horses in the foreground on top of a vibrant green hill with beautiful dramatic clouds behind them and rolling countryside beyond. There seems to be a battle for dominance going on between the horses as they confront each other head on, tails and mane swishing, hooves flying. They are set against the backdrop of the pinky blue sky and it is an absolutely enchanting image. This is a superb example of Pearson's work as a female horse painter at the top of her game and with excellent exhibition provenance. The preliminary sketch is an nice addition to have as well.
