Description This charming British 19th century oil painting is by Victorian artist Richard Willes Maddox. Painted circa 1880 it is a glorious mixture of colours, patterns and textures. Arranged in a porcelain bowl are deep red wall flowers. Next to them stands a fine Chinese dragon incense burner in possibly pewter with a puple fan behind it. A really colourful vibrant Victorian still life with good provenance and housed in a fine gilded oak period frame.

Biography Richard Willies Maddox (fl 1873-1904). Maddox was a London based artist. He was a painter in oils and watercolour and painted country scenes, historical subjects and still life. He exhibited thirteen paintings at the Royal Academy between 1888-1904, including Some Winter Birds, Medea and Dolce fa Niente. He also exhibited four watercolours at Suffolk Street.
