Artist Name Francis Edwin Hodge (1881-1949)
Title A Corner of the Dressing Room
Description  This beautiful exhibited British 1940's interior portrait oil painting is by noted artist Francis Edwin Hodge. Painted in 1941 it was first exhibited at the Royal Academy that year entitled 'A corner of the dressing room' and again at Southport Atkinson Art Gallery in 1946. The composition is of a young ballerina, sat in the corner of a dressing adjusting her ballet shoes. A mirror affords the viewer two views of the dancer. Her tutu and out stretched limbs are beautifully illuminated and outlined, suggesting her gracefulness, even at repose. A really charming twice exhibited ballet portrait oil painting and an excellent example of Hodge's work.
