Henry Robert Robertson (1839-1921)

Artist Name Henry Robert Robertson (1839-1921)
Title The plough
Description This fabulous large Victorian picturesque and rustic realist landscape oil painting is by noted British prolific artist and exhibitor, Henry Robert Robertson. Painted in 1886 it was exhibited at the Royal Academy London of that year, no 1459, entitle 'The Plough'. The painting has a wonderful freshness and light to it and so many areas of interest and charm. In the centre a man is adjusting his plough while two shire horses stand patiently waiting. A mother and child are walking by upper left and the land slopes away to the right revealing a lovely sunny landscape of river, fields and villages. Because of the low perspective and hill, the horses are the higher focal point against the sky. A thoroughly lovely painting that makes one want to get out in the countryside and fresh air.
