Leopold Rivers (1850-1905)

Artist Name Leopold Rivers (1850-1905)
Title Harvesters in a Coastal Landscape
Description This absolutely charming Victorian oil painting is by British artist and prolific exhibitor Leopold Rivers. Indeed our painting may have been exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1897 no. 1169 as Harvest Time. The wonderful soft focus and muted tones make this painting really pleasing to the eye. The subject matter is harvest time in a coastal landscape. Workers load the harvest onto the horse and cart and a  village with its church spire nestles to the right and the sea behind. A really tranquil pastoral scene and an excellent example of Rivers work. Signed lower left.
