Description | This lovely Old Master Dutch winter figurative landscape oil painting is attributed to the circle of Gerard van Edema, a Dutch landscape painter who settled in England in 1670 when eighteen years old. It was painted circa 1700. In the foreground is a frozen river with numerous figures and dogs on and around it amusing themselves. On the opposite side of the river boats are moored outside cottages that line the bank, snow glistening on their roof tops and smoking coming from the chimneys warming the occupants within. Dark clouds are blowing in promising more snow to come. A charming Dutch Old Master winter landscape oil painting. Indistinctly signed middle left. |
