Description This gorgeous 1920's exhibited portrait oil painting is by noted Scottish artist and prolific exhibitor, Robert Hope. Hope exhibited more than 150 paintings at the Royal Scottish Academy between 1887 and 1937 as well as exhibiting elsewhere. Our painting was exhibited at the RSA in 1923. This beautiful full length portrait is of a curly haired blonde young boy, dressed in blue tunic and shorts. He is holding his teddy bear and has a football at his feet. In muted Scottish tones with superb brushwork and detail this is a super Scottish portrait of a young child and an excellent example of this prolific and talented Scottish artist.

Biography Robert Hope (1869-1936) ARSA 1911, RSA 1925. Born Edinburgh, he studied at the Edinburgh School of Design, the RSA schools and Academie Julian Paris. He started as a Lithographic draughtsman but soon turned to painting. His work included portraits, landscapes and views of Edinburgh in oil. Associated with the East Linton group of painters and most of his landscapes are of East Linton.
