Alan Ian Ronald (1899-1967)
|Artist Name||Alan Ian Ronald (1899-1967)|
|Title||The Alster Hamburg 1935|
|Description||An original mid-20th century landscape oil on panel by Scottish listed artist Alan Ian Ronald RSW. A very good example of this impressionist’s work who exhibited in galleries and major Scottish and British art institutions. Painted in 1935, it was exhibited by the Art Cellar Edinburgh and it retains the label verso. Exceptionally well painted. What also makes this of such interest is that the Scottish Colourist influences are being merged by the German Expressionist impasto which must have been viewable to Ronald. The painting depicts Hamburg in 1935 at an important time in its history. The town and the river with boats are superbly captured. Mid-20th century German scene landscape oil paintings like this can be seen on display at galleries and art fairs.
Signed left A Ronald '35.
