E A Jay

Artist Name E A Jay
Title Female Nude in Women's Art Class Portrait
Description This superb Post Impressionist Slade School female full length seated nude portrait oil painting is by female artist E A Jay. Painted in the 1940's, the sitter is a model in a women's life class and we can see two female artists at their easels. The model slightly has her back to the viewer so we get a very different, more modest perspective to the women's in the class. Jay has used a superb palette of purply greys and pinks for the surroundings, contrasting with the honey glow of the model's body. A really engaging painting by a female artist of a woman being painted by women in a women's art class.
