Description This striking oil on canvas painting is by Irish artist Gladys Nolan and was  painted circa 1930. This Post Impressionist view is of Istanbul, Turkey with the spires of the iconic Blue Mosque and other buildings in the background. In the foreground are figures walking in a park area with stunning purple trees that may be Eastern Red Buds or Cercis Canadensis. In the midground is a hill - possibly one of  'The Seven Hills of Istanbul' or Constantinople as it was previously known. Wikipedia actually describes all 7 hills but we are unable to identify our particular hill. A charming painting by a superb 1930's female artist.
Provenance Location and signature verso. Cotswolds estate.

Frame Housed in a gallery frame 40 inches by 35 inches and in excellent condition.

Biography Gladys Nolan (exhibited 1925-34). Nolan was an Irish artist from Cork. She was a painter in oils of landscapes and still life and was active in the late 20's early 30's. She exhibited 5 paintings at the Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin.
