A superb oil painting by Scottish artist J B Robertson who was active between the wars and who exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy and The Glasgow Institute. This fine interior painting family portrait depicts Glasgow life circa 1920 for the middle classes. A gathering of family and friends listen to the violin and piano. There are fine paintings on the wall, one of which looks like a John Lavery. It is a very evocative interior and a fine period oil painting. Signed lower middle. |

John Burns Robertson. Active between 1920-1944 Robertson was a Glasgow painter in oils of portraits, still life flowers and townscapes. He exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy 4 and Glasgow Institute 17. |
