| Biography | John Reid Murray (1861-1906) Born in Helensburgh; died Prestwick. Studied at Glasgow before going to Antwerp Academy with E A Hornel. Exhibited with The Glasgow Boys in Europe. A landscape painter his work is distinguished by the frequent use of heavy impasto with a fine feel for seasonal colour often with extensive foregrounding and low horizon. He gained a gold medal in Munich in 1897 and died before his full potential was realised. He is represented in The Glasgow Art Gallery.
