Andrew Douglas (1870-1935)

Andrew Douglas RSA (1870-1935) Born Midlothian and died in Edinburgh. Painter in oil and watercolour of landscapes and cattle. Attended a private school and later the Old School of Art on the Mound. For further development he visited Belgium, Holland and France before making an extensive tour of America. He began painting comparatively late and it was not until 1897 that he won his first award, a bronze medal at the Life Class, and the Keith prize. His favourite painting grounds were in Perthshire and around east Linton although he also did important work in Berlin, Vienna and Munich. Principal works include Autumn Sunshine, Maternal Instinct, Ben Venue, and Loch Tay, Elected ARSA in 1920 RSA 1933. Represented in Paisley Art Gallery and Brodie Castle. He exhibited at Royal Scottish Academy 119, Royal Academy 2, Royal Society Watercolours 1, Glasgow Institute  78, Liverpool 13.
